Quote 1:  Read it aloud. That's the best way, then you can explain it to me as you go ( Page 165)

Explanation: What this quote is explaining is that Julia had fell asleep while reading the forbidden book. Winston saw the book laying down on the ground and told Julia that they had to finish reading it but Julia was too tired to even read. She told Winston to read it aloud so she can hear the book and Winston can explain it while he reads.

Quote 2: In Newspeak it is called doublethink, although doublethink comprises much else as well. (Page 176)

Explanation: This quote explains that in Oldspeak it is called " Reality control" while in Newspeak it is called "Doublethink". Doublethink is when it has control of both power in someones beliefs. Winston believes more with doublethink because reality control messes with memories while doublethink helps him to not think about the reality and how it is not violated.

Quote 3: What are you in for? Thoughtcrime! ( Page 192)

Explanation: Winston had asked Parsons why he was in jail and it was because of the thoughts he had. He was afraid that he was going to die because he thought he committed a crime even though he didn't commit any crimes only in his thoughts. He can't control his thoughts so he had no reason to get shot and killed.

  1. I like how the quote you picked are short but contain a lot of information. I also like the way you went in depth in all three quote. what I would have like maybe some comparisons to you if there were any.

  2. Like Adrian Navarro, I like the short quotes and your analysis of them. I find it ridiculous how people get convicted and vanished for Thought Crime which is just making a facial expression! Keep the good work up, though.
