Book 2 Chapters 7-10

Quote 1:  " War, it will be seen, not only accomplishes the necessary destruction, but accomplishes it in a psychologically acceptable way". ( page 158)

 Explanation: This quote explains that war is seen more than destruction. It shows how war is also affected people in a way where they were accepting the war like Winston.
Quote 2: " The party owns everything in Oceania, because it controls everything and disposes of the products as it thinks fit." ( Page 170)

 Explanation: This quote I chose explains how the party is the second to highest in the pyramid behind Big Brother. The party rules Oceania,they make the policies, and the decisions. Even though they have a lot of power Big Brother is still in charge of them but the party still owns Oceania.

 Quote 3: " At the apex of the pyramid comes Big Brother. Big Brother is infallible and all-powerful." ( page 171)

 Explanation: This quote explains how Big Brother is the highest part of the pyramid in the Oceanic society. Even though we don't know if he really exists and that the party might have hired him to make the posters about Big Brother. Big Brother is both nice and mean since he has all the power to control everything. Big Brother is an irony name because the person doesn't  act like a brother and more of someone who controls people . I think Big Brother is powerful because they are kind of like the government which has power over anyone and in Oceania Big Brother is considered the government since they are making all the rules for Oceania to follow.

Quote 1: "Your'e a traitor! Your'e a thought criminal! Your'e a Eurasian spy! I'll shoot you, I'll vaporize you, I'll send you to the salt mines!" ( chapter 2, 23) Explanation: What this quote is explaining is that a boy was yelling at Winston after he had removed the hair from the sink and the boy seemed like he was playing a game so Winston went along with it. The boy and his sister was acting like this because Winston didn't have time to take them to see the hanging. Quote 2: "Winston woke up with the word "Shakespeare" on his lips" (Chapter 3, 29) Explanation:   This quote explains how he was dreaming about his mother because she disappeared when he was very young. They were talking about her movements when she tore off her clothes and threw them aside. She also did some gestures that were in ancient times which is why Shakespeare was written on his lips.   Quote 1:   Read it aloud. That's the best way, then you can explain it to me as you go ( Page 165) Explanation: What this quote is explaining is that Julia had fell asleep while reading the forbidden book. Winston saw the book laying down on the ground and told Julia that they had to finish reading it but Julia was too tired to even read. She told Winston to read it aloud so she can hear the book and Winston can explain it while he reads. Quote 2: In Newspeak it is called doublethink, although doublethink comprises much else as well. (Page 176) Explanation: This quote explains that in Oldspeak it is called " Reality control" while in Newspeak it is called "Doublethink".
